Even if it tried, the announcement about KFC and ‘F1 The Movie’ teaming up to promote the chicken brand’s summer snack couldn’t get any punnier.
And yes, The Super Gallery team heard your groans. But like the tongue-in-cheek details about the food and the film, the SUPER crew couldn’t help itself.
To spare your eyes from too many rolls, this post will keep it short and sassy, just like the 15-second YouTube spot promoting the restaurant and the racing flick.
The commercial starts with an F1 driver yelling, “Box! Box!” For all non-racing fans, F1, touring and Formula E racers shout “box, box” to indicate they need a pit stop.
And you likely already guessed where the racer goes next to “refuel.” Yep, he pulls into a KFC drive-thru for a …pit stop… to get a KFC signature red and white striped…box, of course. It contains one of the restaurant’s “Fill Up” meals first launched in 2009 for just $5.
Starting June 9, and selling for $2 more, this summer’s four meal options include a medium drink, a biscuit, mashed potatoes with gravy, two pie poppers and a choice of either three chicken tenders, a breast, a leg and thigh or a bowl.
And in case anyone could possibly miss the wordplay, a statement from Catherine Tan Gillespie, president for KFC-U.S. made it plain.
“It’s a really big deal that we’re bringing back our Fill Ups—with four varieties of finger lickin’ good meals that genuinely fill you up,” she said. “It’s box meals meets box office … so you can turn hunger for chicken into a victory lap this summer.”
Not to drag this out (see what we did there?), but you should know the Fill-Up costs more in Alaska, Hawaii, California and on third-party websites. No food substitutions allowed, and the release date for “F1 The Movie” is June 27.
