Watch enthusiasts who appreciate coastal colors and rare natural phenomena can find both in Casio’s Hidden Glow Series, which recently presented its second installment in the line.
The collection, Hidden Glow Vol. 2: Sea of Stars, is comprised of six pieces and mimics the glowing, but infrequently seen, bioluminescent tides that give the appearance of shimmering green or blue glimmer at night or in low-light conditions.
Reminiscent of scenes on the sea, the watches’ primary color is the stark white of billowy clouds above the ocean – represented by varying shades of blue accents on the bands, hands, face and case.
But the standout feature comes from what gives the Hidden Glow Series its name. Every timepiece has a phosphorescent dial and some accents that glow in the dark to replicate the shimmer of plankton and some squid, fish, worms, bacteria or jellyfish.
Casio achieved the look by infusing phosphorescent material in resin components in the G-Shock pieces. On some models, the entire face glows, and on others, only smaller elements on the case have the shimmering quality.
Billed as possessing G-Shock’s signature durability, the watches’ all feature water resistance up to 200 meters and shock-resistant structure. Additionally the include 12/24 hour formats, five daily alarms, a stopwatch and LED light.
