TAG Heuer is releasing only 100 units of a timepiece with a design that draws inspiration from the traditional stylings of British racing.
The limited edition TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph x Festival of Speed was issued to commemorate the watchmaker’s return to the Goodwood Festival of Speed and its designation as the Official Timekeeper to Formula 1.
The Festival of Speed covers 1.16 miles on a hillclimb course with an elevation of almost 300 feet. In 1993, Charles Richmond started the competition that is held at Goodwood House in West Sussex in England.
Goodwood, an 11,000-acre private estate, transforms into a racing and car enthusiast haven for the event. A curated collection of motorcycles and cars flank the primary hillclimb, and in previous years Goodwood Festival of Speed has been the event where car manufacturers choose to debut new models.
Members of the Goodwood Road Racing Club will receive the first opportunities to buy the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph x Festival of Speed before the brand offers it to the public.
The watch features a brown leather rally strap as a nod to motor racing during the 1970s, a period described in the TAG Heuer press release as racing’s “golden era.” The strap, with its perforations and holes for ventilation, mirrors components in a racing car and holed leather racing gloves. The dial is British racing green accented with three bright red hands.
TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph x Festival of Speed uses the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph as its foundation. TH20-00 movement powers the timepiece housed in a 42 mm case.
“TAG Heuer has the most incredible connection to motor racing, and boasts an illustrious history, working with some of the greatest drivers and teams in the sport, said Festival of Speed founder Richmond, now the 11th Duke of Richmond. “I am absolutely delighted to welcome them back to the Festival of Speed as our Official Timing Partner, and that we will realize our shared passion for motorsport with the creation of a special Festival of Speed watch….”
